The Empire

When the dust kicked up from beneath our warriors’ feet has finally settled and the fires set by our warriors’ arms have finally flickered out, there will be, in the place of the lawless chaos, a single great Empire and in its glory all shall live.”

Encompassing the majority of habitable planets, the Empire is a dominant force in the daily lives of most of the human population. Within its cold confines, the Citizens worship their Emperor as a living god. He has constructed a grand image of himself as an omnipotent being, although truly he is little more than a manipulative murderer. All societies who oppose the Empire’s tyrannical rule are quickly crushed, and the rest are soon assimilated into its vast society.

The Emperor, himself, is a cruel and ruthless man who clawed his way to the top of the political hierarchy by way of violence and deceit. His acquisition of power has done nothing to sate his appetite for death. His demigod status is second to none, and he rules over the Empire with undying resolve. Dressed in a military uniform at all times, adorned with meaningless medals and awards, he never hesitates to order his troops to slaughter any man, woman or child suspected of involvement with any sort of resistance.

The Empire maintains a strict hierarchy within its army. The chain of command is strictly obeyed, at whatever the cost. Each person in the Imperial Army views himself, not as an individual, but as part of a whole, and would knowingly sacrifice his life at the word of his superior. This absolutist system usually runs smoothly. However, when communications are cut off, individuals are unable to exercise independent judgment or make critical decisions without the commands of superiors, leading to disastrous errors.

The Empire, and more specifically the Emperor, has an unquenchable passion to destroy or absorb all competing sources of power. The Empire has already lost two Wars of Domination and will not tolerate failure in its third attempt. The Empire has little regard for the safety of its own troops, and the number of enemy casualties greatly outweighs that of survivors on either side. This excessive, and at times even counterproductive, level of violence is not hidden from citizens, who rejoice at the news that their enemies have been slaughtered and view all those outside their society as less than human and, therefore, unfit to live.

The Empire believes its way of life, conformity and submission to the Emperor, is the only way to attain “peace and lawfulness.” This belief, coupled with a violent mindset, fuels the Empire’s never ending war(s) with outside societies. The Credo of every citizen is, “The Empire is great; the Emperor is greater”.
